Who Made this Site?
My name is Joseph Peters. I work on the Multimedia Instructional Design Team in Nursing and Hygiene Department at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I have a Master’s Degree in Second Language Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education both from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I have experience developing curriculum for various English learning levels and settings. I have seen how international standards for technology have increased. I hope to encourage students in the writing process!
Teaching Philosophy
Teaching is about helping students discover by scaffolding their development in recursive stages of self-exploration. I have taught at various levels of education. In each level, my desire was the same, I wanted the students to succeed. I hope to continue to assist students learn the joy of learning.

Teaching is best accomplished by good planning and formative feedback. Planning can be managed by working through backward lesson planning. This method asks teachers to think “for what”, is the purpose of a lesson, then to determine the best course of teaching that. It is important for teachers to create a scope and sequence of objectives and activities to accomplish them. In addition, it is important to engage in reflective practices, such as formative assessment of students by asking and checking how they are doing. Then if necessary, supplementing or modifying lessons.
I will facilitate the formation of routines and patterns according to time availability and student interests. I hope to encourage as much student-centered learning as possible. I hope to provide resources and graphic organizers to guide students through learning processes. I will provide time for students to work in groups and individually. My goal is for students to teach themselves and each other. I will act as a facilitator, that provides mini-lessons that introduce students to stages of the learning process.
